I was served for a debt in the amount of $1700. The paperwork says to appear in court but has no date? but just to do it with in 30 days of receiving the letter.. what do I do?

Go to the court house where you are asked to show up and verify the case with the clerk. If your case is legit, you need to file answers. Don't avoid it completely just because there is no date. It can be a printing error from the company who filed the case. You need to confirm with the court.

Likely the court is giving you 30 days to file an answer to the debt. If you don't file an answer they will take you to court and if you don't show up they will just file a default judgement against you. After that, they can garnish your wages and any bank accounts you have. That is what my experience has been but I am in Ohio.
