Proof of not missing a payment
In my experience with creditors I always ask for a supervisor of collections. A sup. will be able to verify and accept proof of payment where the collectors are just that. They do not do research they collect.
So you may want to start there. If you have proof they cannot double bill you without a refund + interest. Good luck and be persistant

I would definitely follow the advice of taki2u above and speak to someone who can help you. Definitely stress that you have never missed a payment or been behind. But, I agree with you it does sound like highway robbery---I hate when they say sell something, its like you're sitting on diamond studded furniture or something. Good Luck!

Wouldn't they need to notify a person if they were raising their payments?
Also, collectors do tell you that! When we moved here and I had lost my job (fired through the mail after some surgery...it's a long story), before we filed bankruptcy, I had a few collectors asking me if we had a car...yes...then we could sell it to pay what we owed. Did we have a computer....yes....sell it. Did we have furniture....yes....sell it. Did we own or rent.....rent.....move to someplace cheaper. Were our parents still alive....yes....get the money from them. It went on and on and it didn't matter what you told these people. They didn't care and could care less if you had anything left over for anything. I think that is what finially pushed us to file after trying everything else. It is sad how these people have gotten to be any more! No reason to be that way at all.
