Hi all.. Since my last visit, I've made some progress paying off 2 Debts. I still owe a few that I refuse to pay for.. They remain on my credit report and have been there since 2000-2001... The funny thing is, I never even used the cards for anything, not one Cent! I cant justify paying for something that I cant account for..

Will these go away if I don't pay them? The accounts have been steady for over a year now and aren't accumulating anymore interest. I see on the report that the account has been, "paid" but how can it remain on my report with a balance?

Its amazing what kind of trouble a young kid in College gets into.. Now I'm 24 and am making over $60K per year and cant even get a $1000 personal loan from my bank... No second chances in life.

So..... Why exactly am I paying these people? I recieved cards from them over 6 years ago and never used them.. Being young and stupid, I never paid the bill and late fees began to pile up.. I was in school studying Chemical Engineering and didnt even have time to worry about paying bills when I didnt even use the cards.

I havent applied for credit for over 5 years and when I did last month I was denied. This got me investigating my credit and paying off all the debt I owe. But whats the point if it all gets removed from my report? Is this like a clean start?

Because you apparently owe them money. If your contract included any service/maintenance/whatever fees, then you owe them those fees, in addition to any late fees and accumulated interest. If someone else used your credit card, then you need to dispute as such.

Don't know where you are, but it is possible that you could be sued for this debt (depends on the SOL). The seven year time frame for negative info on a credit report is designed so that eventually, a person will not be dogged by a bad circumstance forever.

So, I should see these disappear from my report within the following months? I have Cards that I pay off in full early each month. My credit is still pretty bad, but I'm improving and very quickly..

If I refuse to pay these previous creditors, and they're removed from my report as you both state, my credit should being to dramatically improve, correct?
