I have a decent credit score in the 700 range, but a credit card/loan debt of a little over 20,000. I would like to consolidate it all to one payment. I am not looking to file bankruptcy nor am I worried about harassing phone calls. I just need a fresh start, but fear looking around and applying for consolidation loans will bring my credit score down more. I live in California, any suggestions?

Hi jaysenrrt , welcome on the board :)

Don't look for bankruptcy when can work out other options in repaying the debts. Bankruptcy will stay negatively in the file for the next ten years. If you decide to consolidate, the debts will be combined under one payment plan at an interest rate affordable to you. This program will be reported in your file as long as you are enrolled in it, maybe 2 - 3 years at the max. It is perhaps, one of the best ways of achieving a debt free life.
