Report them right away!!!! All bark and no bite doesn't really get results!! I can't remember if you have paid your principle + legal interest off.
Report them to everyone, the FTC, the AG, the BBB, the banking department...just make sure that you follow through on all of your complaints. the squeeky wheel gets the grease!

Yes. I have paid the principle + more than what California states I have to pay as interest on a pdl. I just wasn't sure on when to report these agencies. Thanks for your help.

Beware of these loan places because they will say that you didn't pay on the principal amount. They will claim that you paid towards renewing the loan only and were charged with fees. Recite them the laws loudly because CA doesn't allow any rollovers. You must report your AG about the illegal business of GFSIL. They are not licensed anywhere in the US. They have their headquarters in the UK. Others are also harassed in the same way by GFSIL. They need to be reported fast.

I would contact the AG's office and your state's banking dept first thing. Not only can they give you some valuable information about how to deal with these companies, but by filing complaints it makes your state government aware of the problem. If you just settle with the pdl, and don't file a complaint, then the same thing will keep happening to more people. The more complaints your state gets, the more likely your state will do something about these kind of lenders.

I will be contacting the Attorney Generals office. Also, the Department of Corporations is the state department in California that regulates pdls. I have downloaded the complaint form for their office also. I will also be contacting the bbb.

On September 8, 2006 California issued a cease and desist order on a list of 40 ipdls to stop loaning monies to CA residents. At the time of the press release the list was growing to the cease and desist order. CA was demanding that if they want to loan to CA residents they must first obtain a license. And any resident who had a loan with an unlicensed ipdl were to be forgiven.

And they were not allowed to pursue collection activities on defaulted or outstanding ipdl loans. Get your complaints in ASAP.

I will. If not tomorrow, then definitely over the weekend. Do you know where I can get more information on the Sept 8, 2006 information regarding the 40 pdls?

Thanks....I see ameriloan was listed in the article. That is one I paid over the principle amount. I think I will give the office a call and see if they can tell me who else is on the list.

I'm sure that the list has grown since September. I know once I filed a complaint against ameriloan they never contacted me again. They are ran by Native Americans.

I found the other cease and desist orders for California. Unfortunately, ameriloan was the only one I had. I will definitely file a complaint on all my pdls asap.

That was at the time of the release. It pertains to ALL unlicensed pdls operating. But they can not issue an order against a company if you do not complain. There were forty of them at the time of the release, the release did not list all forty companies though.

Tali,
The other thing you absolutely must do is this: if you signed any voluntary wage garnishments while you were pdl'ing, you must contact your payroll dept ASAP and revoke them in writing. Now that you've defaulted, they will try and do this if you signed one--so do it tomorrow, OK?
I found another site that lists all the cease and desist orders
I found another site that lists all the cease and desist orders issued by California. It actually has a copy of the order. I printed the one for ameriloan. I thought I might remind them of it when/if they harrass me. I am definitely filing a complaint for all my pdls, as they are all illegal.
