If we have caller ID block on our home phone, is it possible to call one of these CA to request their address without them picking up the #? What about cell phone blocking with *67? I tried using a calling card & a public pay phone but these folks (??law firm) do not allow those calls to go through so I'm guessing they are trying to "capture" the number. Sorry if this topic was already covered, I don't seem to find it in the forum.

They called an old neighbor of mine about an account that was closed in 1999! They have nothing to lose by calling, I guess. I did not acknowledge owing them a dime but I may call them again & get an address for a cease & desist letter; I'll post the address too.

My sister just received a call, instructing to call 800-619-5487 "regarding an important business matter". I tried to Google it and look it up on whocalled.us without any results. If anyone out there has received the same message or is familiar with this 800 number, please let me know. Thanks!

They are a legitimate law firm. Here is their name, address and telephone # per Mapquest:

Gillette Law Offices
515 S 700 E, Salt Lake City, UT
(801)-359-5069

I am going to do some more investigating on behalf of my sister. In the meantime, if anyone out there has had any dealings with this firm, please let me know.

Thanks for your help!

That's a point well taken, Anthony. Thanks.

I have passed on the information regarding this law firm to my sister.

It would be nice if these people could conduct business without all their boiler room crapola. But, then again, there would be no need for the fdcpa or this website if they didn't, right?

Great website. Thanks again for the input. :D

My sister told me last night that she has NO intention of calling them back. She wants to wait for them to send her correspondence, as she suspects they are calling about an old ER doctor bill that she has been disputing with a hospital for the past two years.

Thanks for the info, Anthony & Granny. I was hesitant to call using my cell phone # as they'd probably call me back & waste my minutes. I did not want to use my home phone at all. I also never received a letter from them. I spoke to a person named "Paul" who mentioned the old account I'd had & tried to get a payment set up "so we can show the judge something is being paid". I only said "I'm going to talk to my lawyer" & never acknowledged the debt.
When I found out the debt was past the SOL in my state, I was glad I'd said nothing else. Also, Granny, they did not have a current address/phone # for me, which makes me wonder if they're even able to access credit reports as that info would be on there.

My brother and mom called me this morning saying that Gillette and Paul had called looking for me. I don't understand why they didn't just call me since my phone number is listed, but I did call them back. The man I spoke with (Larry Penman) said that Providian was going to sue me for a credit card that I had 8-10 years ago. I kept telling him that I didn't know what he was talking about and asked if he could send me something and he just flat out said no. He never once asked me for my address or phone number (since he obviously didn't have that because he had to call my parents and brother), but told me to look for a court summons. How's he going to do that with no address??

Wendy, if they do get a summons, they may lie and said that you were sent one, and a judgement, because you didn't know about any court date, will be rendered against you. They are sleazy and do things like that to people. They will send a copy to an old address on purpose, and make it seem like you just didn't respond to the summons. On the other hand, they may be just threatening you. If the debt is not yours, then the burden of proof is on them, not you. Also, if it is 8-10 years, the statute of limitations would have already run out, and they can do nothing legally, and no court would even consider hearing it.

This phone number has been calling an old address of mine that is over 8 yrs old. They have now told the people that live there (friends) that they are going ahead with the "proceedings" - I have never recieved any documentation only 3rd party telling me about the phone calls. What should I do?

How do you send a cease and disist letter. I never had a credit card before, and all my medical bills i ever did have went through my parents place. I dont have debts, but it upsets me that people like this can do this to people. I dont get it, I havent even owned a credit card before, maybe someone made a account under my name?? whats wierd is ive only lived at this address for two years. they said my last payments was just a few days ago, and now its due??? I dont get that.
