It is not illegal for a creditor to call you. In order to get them to stop, you would have to send them a cease and desist letter. It would be best if you talked to them and worked out arrangements, though, because if this is a consumer debt that can't be garnished and it's a significant amount, they can levvy your accounts, which in my opinion is much worse than a garnishment.
