Thanks to all. These forums are a learning experience for me too. As texaslawyer has said, they don't teach stuff like this in law school. It requires a great deal of outside research. Stuff like the fdcpa is only gone over a bit when you're studying something like bankruptcy. I guess when a lot of attorneys are admitted to the bar, strightaway they want to dive into personal injury, etc. where there is a lot of fast money.
cajunbulldog, you work offshore? I thought you mentioned rigs in some post. Do you have internet access out there?
Thanks fedupinpa, cajun knows more than I do on most issues here, and he's self-taught, as such great lawyers as Abraham Lincoln, Sam Houston, and others were.
Sassnlucy, I like making friends there too, but I still get a lot of boggus requests everyday. Some look legit, one way to find out is to click on the photo. Usually it goes to some "adultsitesex.com" and is boggus.

Law Student,I am currently on a furlough from my land rig in Texas.I have a logging unit I run that has full internet and phone on 99% of my jobs. I do appreciate the comments on my law experience, but I don't think I wanna take on any real attornies just yet. Collection attornies are usually easy to frustrate because they expect you to either not show up or roll over/play dead just because their title.

Morningstar, I'm glad you mentioned that. I'm usually a lot more careful. I think I'll scan my computer now.

I think you will do just fantastic....hey if we join up ....does that mean we get free legal advice  afterall, my hubby is a long hauler and he is in and out of Ca. all the time.
Best of wishes and Happy Birthday too!

kscornell: yes I agree. The Bay area seems a bit under-represented here. No more beautiful of an area anywhere.
Moondazer: Thank you so much. That birthday is indeed only a few days off, and you are the first to wish me a happy birthday. LOL yes, as to free legal adice yes. Besides, there is a thing called "drive through jurisdiction" in some areas. By the way, just for you, my cousin whom I mentioned playing for the NY Mets and SF Giants has the initials M.P. and was a short stop in the 1970s. That shouldn't be very hard to find. His first name is Mike. He shares a last name with the former Houston Oilers couch Bum (last name beginning with "P.") I've been trying to get in touch with him with regard to family history.
Funny you should mention that your husband is a long hauler. I just read one California case law summery in which two of the nation's large haulers were in court. One accused the other of "luring drivers away" LOL. Company A would train them, then Comapny B would try to get the drivers to join them. These comapanies are in Nebraska, but was tried in California because that's where the drivers are from.
All the best to you

Thank you for the offer of free legal advise. This may be a little off subject...but just thought I might clue you in on another sub-group of culture,ie. truckers.
They are a group that at this point needs to be able to hire close to 200,000+ a year for the next decade to make up for the loss of the baby boomers who are beg. retirement.
Although there are many truckers out there who do deserve the reputation that most have, in fact, most poeple would be very surprised to find a large portion of drivers are 2nd mid-lifetime careers. My husband's company hauls specialized and there are airline pilots, artists, teachers, proffesors,...the list just goes on and on. And they are also a group of consumers facing many changes in their current laws....which are in conflict with other existing laws. It has become a very difficult arena for drivers.
So please alwasy consider them to be a good source for clients. They provide an absolutely necessary service to this country. And considering that there is little if no public information taught to the general public....usually the driver is almost always considered the culprit in any accident. BTW....California has some of the most unjust and unfair rules concerning drivers. Most owner operators not living in that state refuse to deliver there. My hubby is a company driver so he has no choice.
I ride with him sometimes....maybe if we deliver near your area we might meet one day. At least I will know a lawyer there now if we ever need one!
Okie Dokie....enuff said....hope you are having a grand week-end!
You're right. Virtually everything we buy is delivered by truck
You're right. Virtually everything we buy is delivered by truck. Also, I have seen adverts for some attorneys which lists along with divorce, bankruptcy, etc. "18 wheeler accidents". I have a longtime friend from the Anaheim area who is an owner/operator trucker.
I will consider your advise. Indeed, truckers have a culture all teir own, it is a way of life for most.
