Collection agency reporting an inaccurate item

ive had this debt since 2000 and i had it taken off my credit report. all of a sudden it reappears as i about to close on a house. idon't owe what they say i owe and they are messing with my credit. what can i do :?:

Dispute with the credit bureaus as not being an account you own along with letter to collector outlining the real damages you may suffer by their actions. To close on your house,ask broker or loan originator to do a rapid rescore for your package. It will cost extra but will be worth it in the long run.
