Can a collection agency pull your credit report? If not, what information can they get from credit bureaus?

Hi unicorn1969,

Welcome to forums.

collection agencies may pull your credit report from credit bureaus as their intention is to dig up the black marks your credit report has. If you have made any mistake in past, they will come up with that issue and try to pressurize you.

So it will be wiser for you to remove all the black marks from credit report if you have. Please feel free to ask any more questions in future.

Regards,
Bryan

HI unicorn1969

A collection agency can view your credit report as many times as they want. This is one of the main reasons of the credit being ruined. Whenever they request for it, your credit score gets reduced by 2 points. This can keep adding up whenever a credit report is requested.

The fdcpa law authorizes the collection agencies to report debts to the credit bureaus. This is done so that the collection agency can recover debt from the consumers. There are occasions when collection agencies commonly report to the credit bureaus using a newer ???purge from??? date despite the fact that this is not allowed according to sections 605a4 and 605c1 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This leads to an item being negatively reported in your credit report greater than 7 years.

If you find any collection account has been reported more than a period of 7 years from the date your creditor began sending you collection notices, you should take proper steps and dispute it with the credit bureau to show the account as ???Outdated???

Regards
Roxette

I have received calls from a collection agency that says they are a law firm, I have ask if they are a collections agency and they say no,they are from and attorneys office.
I just checked my credit report and they are a collection agency and reported that I opened an account with them on 3/1/2008 and owe them the balance that I owe the company they are collecting a debt.(third party).

Are they not suppose to tell you they are a collection agency and how can they put on my credit report that I opened an account with them on 3/1/2008 when I did not, it has it as an open account.

Thanks for any advice.

this is a god subject matter! Can I stop "Inquiries" from collection agencies to show up on my report? Those inquiries stay fro 2 years and apparntly do affect your score! Is there something I can do to put a "block" if you will, with all my CB not allowing anybody to pull or view my credit report? I've notied NCO made an inquiry on 2006 and again in 2007!

I believe there are some inquiries that do not hurt your FICO score I think..someone will be along shortly to advise further so hang in there.

I believe that it is illegal for the collection agency to pose as a lawfirm...not too sure on that one though answers will be coming along soon from others
