Hi R Weiss
Welcome to the forums. I suggest you to pull your latest credit report from the three bureaus and see the status of the said collection account There are occasions when collection agencies commonly report to the credit bureaus using a newer ???purge from??? date despite the fact that this is not allowed according to sections 605a4 and 605c1 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This is the main reason of the credit being ruined. A request made by a collection agency lowers your credit score by 2 points and stays negatively for greater than 7 years.
If you find this collection account has been reported more than a period of 7 years from the date your creditor began sending you collection notices, you should take proper steps and dispute it with the credit bureau to show the account as ???Outdated???
