Discrepancies...

I had a couple of credit report discrepancies in which I want to settle. We moved about 8 years ago and two of our creditors did not get our change of address. Now interest and late fees have added up; we have decided to settle with a recovery agency and with the actual credit card company for near half of the balance. Is this fair or is there something that I can do to limit the damages. Do I have any legal standing to fight this or do I just have to settle because we accidentally did not apparently give them our new address?

If you made your last payment over eight years ago,the debt may be obsolete. What I am saying in that is payment could reset reporting sol and put bad marks back on your credit report. Please provide me with all the details of the debts except any personal info and I may be able to give a more detailed response.
