I owe SocialSecurity, since they have overpaid in past years
Date: Sun, 04/22/2007 - 21:25
I was involved in a traumatic motorcycle accident on September 8th 1996.I was thrown 70+ Ft from the118 freeway over path connecting to the 210 in the San Fernando Valley, CA
I was also in a 3 week Coma due to the accident and suffered from much other impairment.
I received State disability the first year, and then the next year I was receiving Social Security benefits. I went back to work in 1998 and continued to receive Social Security benefits. I was told that it was normal to continue receiving benefits the first year of returning back to work. I do not have the correct years of my benefit being paid and the amounts.
I have not been able to keep a job. I feel due to my condition of having short term memory, loss of balance, loss of strength and energy to work
I having been receiving Social Security benefits on and off ever since, or I might have never stopped receiving benefits. I am not sure.
I have informed Social Security of my lobs that I have had. They never stopped giving me benefit money. At one point I was told by a Social Security representative that it was normal to continue to receive money while I was working, so I thought it was normal. I do not know why they continued to pay me benefits year after year.
Ultimately I do not have any money to pay back. I barley earn enough to pay my bills week to week.
Today 2007 Social security is asking for the money to be returned to them. I do not have any money to return I am barley earning enough.
I must find the letters that list the overpaid amount; I believe it is in the $60.000 range.
I would appreciate any and all advice. Thank You in advance for taking the time to read this letter.
Sincerely MarioLuna

I don't know what to tell you. Individuals are responsible for over payments that the government makes to them. I know that presently, SSDI allows you a maximum of 9 months of gainful employment in a 5 year period (then bennies cut off). I don't know what else to tell you. Tax refunds can be intercepted to repay this, future benefits can (will) be garnished to repay, and bankruptcy will not discharge this.

You can contacgt SSI and arrangem payment arrangements to pay this back...My ex boyfriends father was overpaid by SSI and he set it up for them to take it out of his account every month for the amount both parties agreed upon

Leah is right. My son was overpaid, and the minimum amount they will accept is $20/month. They are easy to work with and very nice. And you are right, my son's overpayments were due to their mistakes for not properly noting my income each time I updated it. I would contact them, they are nice and will accept $20/month payment.
