I have really gotten myself into a PDL nightmare. I have closed my bank account and opened another account but I still owe this money and want to pay it. I also do not want my references to be called. Or my employer for that matter. I was looking on a certain website and found that rollover fees are illegal in CA. Does that mean all those times I paid $90 to renew those online loans were not even legal? I have paid these guys a fortune and haven't touched the loan amount. I feel like an idiot but I am so glad I found this site. Thanks in advance.

You definately did the right thing! And yes, rollovers are illegal in California, but I have found in my experiences PDL'ing in CA that storefronts get around it by saying that you're just paying the loan off, which is why they always make you bring the full amount of cash, everytime you rollover. And let me also tell you that defaulting on a PDL is NOT a criminal offense in California, so if anyone threatens you with jail tell them to kiss your grits!
