I won....I won.....I won

I was having fun until I received two calls less than an hour apart on Easter Saturday morning, starting at 8:09 AM. So I called and bitched at them some more and insulted the collector as best I could, calling her dumb and illiterate and pretty much everything *clean* that I could. Of course, she lied and made up excuses why they called me after she verified last time that I wasn't the debtor. The next workday, I sent a letter that crossed in the mail with with THEIR letter to me (thus far it had all been calls) telling me that I owe the debt. Unfortuately, they sent their letter before my letter got there or else I would have a lawsuit.
So I called back and griped some more at her and asked if LTD stood for Long-Term-Dementia. She apologized a lot and I insulted her even more and she SWORE that my name had been taking off as was my address. Still, I wasn't satisfied with my pound of flesh.
Each time they contacted me, I created a customer complaint with the FTC. I am sure nothing will come of that.
So my buddy that is a collector suggested that I contact Citibank as they were the original debtor. I sent an email to the investor relations department with a request that they forward it to the appropriate people--that being the Chairman of the Board and the President of Citi. I explained to them that they were empowering a collections agency to break Federal law (I even provided a link to it). I also explained to them that the collection agency had revealed priviliged client information to me (aka the real debtor's credit card account number and name). I explained to the President and Chairman that I had sent the collection agency--which acted on behalf of Citi--a letter and that if I was contacted again, I would sue them both. I also told the truth that I am a long-time Primerica Life customer and that I would cancel my policy as soon as I found suitable alternative life insurance.
Well, a week or so went by and I just got a personal letter from the Chairman of the Board and the President of Citi (probably more like their secretaries) stating that they apologize, they contacted LTD Financial Solutions and told them never to contact me again about this debt. Pretty stand up, I gotta admit because should I get contacted again, I will have lots of evidence and proof for my attorney. So I am just happy knowing I caused a LOT of grief to this collection agency and maybe Citi will stop doing business with them....okay, now I am just reaching! :D
For now, I have won! 8-)

As a collector, I will be sure to pursue other avenues to collect on this debt of yours, apologies or not.
Just goes to show us how many laws yall break to get money. Post read that it was not their account, enough said. Cajunbulldog

Guest obviously you did not read the original post - Newarcher IS NOT the debtor, this is a case of misidentification! I really don't think that you shoud pay someone elses debt, that is of course unless you would like to take over my bills?
Congrats Newarcher.

I totally agree with the sentiment behind guest number two's post, but we do need to keep the dirty words off the boards, like Cajun said.
And as for guest number one, it blows me away that this collector obviously doesn't care in the slightest that the original poster doesn't even owe the debt, which was even acknowledged by the original creditor!
This shows off one of the biggest problems in the collection industry--once it's been proven that they are collecting off the wrong person, everything should stop, but this collector and many others still try and take money (illegally in this situation). How many people get scared by their tactics and pay up on a debt they don't even owe?
Okay, sorry about the profanity but is just seemed to fit so wel
Okay, sorry about the profanity but is just seemed to fit so well.
This act of finding someone with a similar name and trying to harass them into collecting is the NUMBER ONE complaint the FTC currently is receiving. They find a lot of people in the middle of closings who think it easier to pay the $480 than screw up their loan.
I once found a collection account belonging to my sister on my wife's credit report thanks to Bellsouth. I screamed so loudly at the President's office of Bellsouth that they had it off my report the very next day. That's called dead heading where they put the collection account on my credit report hoping it will help them find the missing debtor.

nearcher,
Kudos to you for your excellent work. You have done the right thing and it seems to have paid off in your benefit with those phone calls. I've heard some foul things about Citi and their collection tactics. I had a friend who was going to work in their collection department but turned it down due to unethical tactics. It seems the guest-collector can't read by his post. I wouldn't let it get to you.

I'm with Mishele. It seems like the Collection industry has lost site of its original mission, which was to help consumers make their payments that they legitamately owe. It almost seems like they are out to collect by any means possible--even if the people they call don't owe it!

If the comprehension skills of the debt collector on this thread is any indication of the group of collectors as a whole, then no wonder we have trouble explaining even the simplest of things to them.
