i recently checked my credit report and there are a few accounts that have been paid off and some settled but they are still listed on the report as negative. i would like to have them romoved. how do i go about that.
also there are two account that are listed with the wrong balances and i would like to have that corrected. how would i go about that also
thanks

Hi, although the accounts are paid or settled, they will still be listed in the credit report for seven years from the date of first delinquency. You need to have the creditors updated your file with the latest status so that your credit is viewed nicely in front of the new lenders. The negative item cannot be removed until they are past the reporting time period as per the FCRA laws.

Dispute the other items that are showing up with wrong balances. The CRA will check with the creditor and update your file.

Just as a side note...I had an account once i was paying down. I had paid off about $4,000.00 of an $8,000.00 balance. I then was sending some challenge letters the the CRA's and I included one for the account I still owed the 4K on. the collector called me and we talked. He said that since I had been making ALL my payments on time untill then and they had no problems with me paying they were going to not respond to the CRA's. Bottom Line? I actually got the negative item REMOVED from my reports before it was even paid off!

Now to keep working on the rest.... :D
