Has anyone had to deal with collection calls from ITT (tech school)? I'm getting calls from Ohio and Indiana at least 2 or 3 times a day. I've tried talking to them, not answering, picking up then hanging up. They won't stop :( It's actually my husbands bill and i've told them we just don't have it. We are making enough to keep us (3 children) in a place, the lights on and food. There is NO extra and I've told them that, but they still call. What can I do?

I honestly don't know if it's a third party collector, the actual lender or both or two third party. I'm getting calls from Ohio and Indiana about the same debt. I believe it is called General Revenue Corporation. Weird thing is this place is connected somehow to SallieMae and they say we owe them too. :? We were able to defer payments to them so we could get our financial situation in order so we can pay them. The other place will NOT work with us at all.
BTW I live in Texas. Thanks for answering.

General Revenue collects for USA Funds who do the federal loans for ITT Tech. (I did some googling).
It sounds like you need to find out what your husband owes and to whom. If he has defaulted on federal loans, he could end up finding his wages being garnished without a court order. Student loans do not operate like ordinary consumer debt...you cannot tell a student loan you wont pay. Because of the federal guarantey, they can easily find out where your DH is working.

C&D works just as well on student loan collections since they are subject to the full authority of FDCPA.The main reason we don't recommend that action is they have the power of the Admin. wage garnishment. This right gives them the ability to garnish wages in any state without a court order. If there is a question of what you owe and you wish to see proof of the debt, send a debt validation letter to the collection agency certified return receipt. The last link in my signature is one from our board here.

Thank you for all your info. We actually have 4 loans, it looks like. 3 from Sallie Mae (one is a "sig-select" with 18% interest!!). The other is from the school. I always thought when you went to school there was one loan. Boy was I naive!! The thing I don't understand is why General Revenue (ITT school loan) calls 2 and 3 times a day and also from 2 different states. Looks like I will have to take food from my children's mouths to pay this so they will leave us alone. I guess it is better that I choose what to give them rather than them taking what they choose from my husband's checks.
