Best way to work out my debt
Date: Thu, 04/26/2007 - 19:16
I owe around 20K cc debt with my Partner.
We have around 1000 extra left after all bills and minimum payments.
Ive never been late on payments and Ive never missed a payment.
It seems like this is going to go on forever though.
If I call my creditors and ask them to reduce the amount I owe but some certain % will they cooperate with me even though I have no problems paying the bills? Ive learned my lessons and I'm ready to move on and start living again.
Thanks.

Do you own any property or are you paying off a mortgage? If you do/are, you can use the equity in your property to pay off your credit card loan. The reason this is good is that interest rates on mortgages are usually much lower than on credit cards. This could potentially save you thousands of dollars on a 20k debt.

Tyler, rlg is right. They will sometimes lower payments or interest rates for you if you are in good standing.
