Cash Transfer Centers already charged me excessively
Date: Wed, 05/16/2007 - 19:09
So about 2 weeks ago, I had to close my account because someone gained access online. That caused my payment to Cash Transfer Centers to be returned to them.
I made arrangements to pay in full this past Friday, with the intent to re-loan AGAIN. But then I was informed that I would only be able to borrow $200, since I now get paid weekly. There was no way I could pay them $820.00 and only get back $200.00. So I decided to end the cycle once and for all.
I found this site and gathered information. I sent them a certified letter on Saturday (to their BC address) and also sent it via e-mail and to TWO different fax numbers. I know they at least received the faxed copy because the posted it on my account info on their site.
I then gave my payroll a letter revoking any wage assignemnts from CTC, Northway, or anyone at all. I also spoke with my bank, who said that they would cancels any transaction from them once I show them the letter revoking consent.
So I sent an initial increment payment on Monday for $120.00, from a balance of $820.00. They accepted it, and notified me via e-mail that I still owe $700.
Anyway, they continue to call and e-mail every day leaving messages about an "urgent" matter. The same person, alias "Brittany Fox", keeps calling from multiple area codes. Yesterday she called from Canada (604) and today from California (213). Imagine that.
So is it normal for them to call every single day, even though I made clear my intentions to pay in increments over the next 30 days? Also, do I HAVE to communicate with her since they have my letter and I made the initial payment?
I left her a long message on her voicemail. But will there be any repercussions if I choose to not speak with her?
Thanks.

First off, you have definately done the right thing in cancelling that voluntary wage assignment. Good for you!
Now in reading your post, I noticed that you said that you've paid them $2000 in fees alone. Was the original loan for $820? If yes, then you have more than paid off this loan and should not pay them another dime.
No, they can not call you daily. What I would do is tell them not to contact you and get a letter to them saying this. This is harassment and a violation of your rights under the fdcpa.
If they persist, file a claim against them with your state's Attorney General Office. Good luck.

You've done everything the right way "Santa". I would definately file that complaint with the Attorney General's office. BTW, what state are you in? And this collection lady must be stuck on "one hit wonder big hair bands of the 80's", Britney Fox is the name of a glam band from the 80's. I love the names these people use.

Thanks for responding. The initial loan was for $600.00. I can't remember the exact date that I made the loan, but it was around September 2006.
In the letter I sent them, I did remind them that they have already made "considerable monetary gain" from me. LOL I also stated that in Florida (which they aren't licensed in) there is a max of $15.00 per every $100.00, and they have been charging me $27.00 per $100.00.
I will pay it back, but I told them on what terms. So tonight I left the lady (Brittany Fox) a voicemail asking her to stop harrassing me, as I have already told them my intentions and they accepted the first payment.

kris, great job! You have done all the right things! I agree with kscornell that you have paid way more than allowed by law already. What state are you in? You should check your state laws and find out how much you should have paid and if you have already paid the loan off, do not pay them a penny more. As for not speaking with her, she will try to contact your employer as well as your references. That is all they have done to me so far. My employer told them that they were not giving out any information on me and they have not called them since.

It looks like you are in Florida. You need to file a complaint with your state's Attorney General's office. Personally, if you have been paying on this loan since Sept. 2006, you are done with them, they have more than made back the principal and legal interest rate. They will continue to call even if you request or tell them to cease and desist. I was able to get these people to stop calling once I filed a complaint with the AG's office and AG's office notified the ipdls that they were investigating a complaint against their company.

I am in Florida. So even if in my letter to them I actually stated that I would pay it all back (after mentioning I knew the fees were too high), i can still stop paying? How can I find out the laws here and what steps do I take? I am actually trying to consolidate some outstanding debt (possibly with T&C) in collections, and was considering throwing CTC in there. Should I?
My references all know what's going on, and so does my supervisor/payroll.
LOL at the "Santa" comment. The name is the first thing that came to my head. :-)

LMAO steelers, I didn't even notice the Britney Fox the first time I read that post!!!
I don't think it would hurt to throw them in with T and C but I don't know that CTC would cooperate with them. Maybe someone else knows for sure. CTC is pretty darn hard to get along with.

Yeah, the Brittany Fox name... When I sent my payment through Quick Collect, I even put in the attention line: Brittany Fox- ALIAS. These people are ridiculous.
I went ahead and got the info for the attorney general. Thanks so much. You guys are great. This board has truly helped ease my mind.

Cash Transfer Center is killing me
Hello everyone.
I would appreciate all the info and help I could get.
I had to take out a $300 and paid a total of $380 on my first loan. I did this cycle for probably 3 or 4 times now. I get paid once a month and they said that their loan is based on a two week pay period so everytime I pay off my loan of $300 + 80 in fees, I had to wait out another 2 weeks to reloan and I needed to end that cycle only to find myself borrowing $700 because they raised my limit which was supposed to be due on 9/1/08. Unfortunately, I didnt have enough to cover for the whole $897 that I needed to pay back. I called immediately and asked if I can make a payment arrangement. The rep I spoke with was firm that the latest date they can give me is on 10/01 which is my payday. I can't afford for them to take out almost $900 from my account. considering that is almost half of my check! I have read some comments here about closing the account but I am most worried about the wage garnishment that I signed. I read I can revoke it, but how and where do i start. I am embarrassed to speak with our HR about it but I really would like to stop the dead end that I am in. What are my options?? HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you..
sincerely,

Does anyone know whether you are to file complaint with local BBB or the office where the company is located?

Well I'm about to deal with these guys. Seemed such a good idea at the time..... I will contact my payroll department possibly Friday. I didn't realize that they could do the wage garnishment. I took at a loan from them a week and a half ago. A payment that was unauthorized to another credit card went through and blew my bank account. Now rent is due. Now this CTC center is due this Friday and I don't have a dime to pay them. How long does it take for the wage garnishment? How current are the Malta address or do I send them directly off to Canada? Preparing for a fight.
I wouldn't waste time on this--and would contact payroll ASAP on
I wouldn't waste time on this--and would contact payroll ASAP on your next working day. You need to send them something in writing saying that you are ending the authorization for the voluntary wage garnishment that you signed to get this loan, because I promise you, they will try this faster than a New York minute.
What state are you in? By getting this information, we can research laws together and really figure out where you stand on this.

can I ask what you typed in the letter to stop wage garnishment? also it has been stated you sent a certified letter what address did you send that too. I can afford 100.00 a month for my 700.00 loan will they accept that? any additional information you all have would be greatly appreciated :D
