I received a call today from The offices of Meredith Lawson and she said that my bank, Freedom National, and Arrowhead Investments has filed an order against for non payment of a pdl. I closed my account because I didn't do a pdl with arrowhead investment and they took $90.00 out of my account and I put in a dispute with my bank and they couldn't find any info on them and the payday company that I took the loan out with took out their $60.00, and I only had one loan. Anyway she said that I would need to retain a lawyer and I would have legal troubles and that this was money laundering and a federal offense. I asked her for verification of this company and a number to get in contact with Arrowhead Investment and she said she would be the only person I have contact with. I called her number again and the company is Jackson, Phillips, and Associates. Has any heard of them and is this legal and can I go to prison? I have four children and I'm not going to prison for a company that I never signed papers with and for $499.00. Please give advice.

There is no such thing as an "Order for NonPayment." Meredith Lawson is not an attorney and Jackson Phillips is just the new name for Bass Prelitigation, a shady collection firm in Jacksonville, FL that is owned and operated by Frank Jackson, an ex-con. The Florida Attorney General has an open investigation of Bass and I would strongly urge you to get in touch with that office. You can file a complaint online at the AG's website.

Make sure you file a complaint against Arrowhead with your own state's banking authorities, too. They aren't licensed in any state so their lending is nothing more than criminal loan-sharking. The address is 1219 Lydia Ave, Kansas City, MO 64106.

vktwinz -

Take a deep breath and relax. Friday has given you excellent advice above.

You cannot be arrested for defaulting on a payday loan. You cannot be fired from your job for defaulting on a payday loan. Your children cannot be taken away for defaulting on a payday loan. You will not go to prison for defaulting on a payday loan.

I know that all sounds redundant, but believe me, those are some of the threats you will hear from some of these payday lenders. They will tell you anything to make you think you HAVE to pay their exorbitant interest rates - until you have them paid off, which will be NEVER, the way they keep stringing you along.

You did the right thing in closing your bank account. That is often the only way to regain control of your money.

Also, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau. You can do these online. It will get more complaints against them. Also, file a complaint with your state's attorney general's office. You can probably do this online as well. There is no reason for you to be threatened like this.

Wow...I guess they had to come up with something more creative this time...Do not worry and please take the advice listed above...The same company tried a similar tactic with me, and I still sit here waiting to go to prison...LOL...I am sorry that you had to deal with that before finding this site...I was lucky enough to have read the threads on this company before they contacted me so I already knew what to expect!

I concur with the advice you have been given and will add the following: Please go to Cajun's thread in the Pub titled "Important Information for Victims of Bass and Associates". There is information there about emailing a reporter with the Jacksonville, Fla paper who is investigating Bass. Please email him. The more stories we can get to him, the better.

Just wanted to add additional info to this blog....I also received a call from meredit Lawson who presented herself as an attorney. She threatened me with the EXACT same things as previously posted. I was crying I was so upset. Some man came on the line pretending to be with the Sheriff's office and told me they were on their way to arrest me. Something in the way he spoke to me as well as Meredith had me doubting their professionalism so I searched her and thankfully located this blog. I immediately contacted the FL Attorney General's office at 1-866-966-7226, who does have an active case against these people but under the name Jackson, Phillips and Associates. I was also advised to contact the FL Dept of Financial Services at 1-800-848-3792 and file a complaint as well as the FL Bar Association at 1-866-352-0707 as none of these people are attorneys. I hope that this info helps someone else as it did me. I have never been so scared as I was today and I would hate for someone to pay these people a single penny. Thank you all so much for the information you provided.
