I read a reply in the message thread above that mentioned a collection agency can do a credit inquiry if the have purchased your debt, but they could only do so for 10 years.

I know they can pull your file, the question is about a time limit.

Does this 10 year rule actually exist? Does it start from first deliquency just like SOL?

I assume if this rule does exist that you could have the credit bureaus remove any inquiry that shows up after 10 years.

There is no time limit where a creditor can stop inquiring on your report. As long as they have a unpaid debt that has not been discharged in a bankruptcy, they can pull credit. The time limit you are referring to is the statute of limitation for reporting accounts to the credit bureaus. It is 7 years 180 days from date of first delinquency. Bankruptcy and public records could stay longer depending on the type of record.Date of first delinquency refers to when you missed a payment and did not bring the account back current. If you start paying back on an account, the sol for reporting will be reset.

Thanks for the quick response. I was actually asking about a possible time rule for the CA being able to have credit inquires that hurt your credit and that anyone could view.

On the thread I had listed at the start of my post, this is message number 7.

"They can inquire and report it onto the her report for up to 10 years."

This is (part of) message number 10, both posts are from someone with the name FYI.

"And I need to retract part of my statement. They can inquire past 10 years. However they can only have it listed for up to 10. It's possible for things to fall off after 7. It just depends on if they want to go through the motions of keeping it on there for the next 3."

What you see in quotation marks was the basis for my question. Once again thanks for a speedy response!

Inquiries are reported on a two year cycle. The ones anyone can see are hard inquiries and stay for 24 months. I can pm you how to remove equifax inqs.No guarantee but it works most of the time.Collectors should not pull hard inquiries because this account is not one you are opening up as a new credit transaction. Some will disagree with me,but this is my belief.I would dispute any collection hard inquiries with the credit bureau telling them you did not open a new account with this collector and to either remove or recode it as a soft inquiry where it belongs.

I don't think CA's should be allowed to show up under hard inquires either. But they sure do! My Experian report says "The section below lists all the companies that have reviewed your credit history as a result of action you took, such as applying for credit or financing or as a result of a collection."

To me, a CA pulling my report is the same as a current creditor doing a review which would be a soft pull.

My Transunion report also says that the hard inquires are "non-disputable unless you are a victim of fraud."

So it looks like it is just an added way to stick it to you.
