how long do i have to wait until i've asked the collection agency to validate the debt to ask for the debt to stop being reported to the cra's

There is no fixed time period within which the collection agency has to validate the debt. But they usually take 45 to 60 days to inform the customers with account info. If the collector is reporting a negative item and after they fail to validate the debt, you must dispute it with the CRA and get it removed from your report, since it might be posted incorrectly and hurting your scores.

Thanks for your response Ruby. I have disputed with the CRA's, but at the wrong time. I didn't know about VOD until after the fact. Now I'm playing the waiting game on 2 charged off accounts. I'm trying to buy a house and want these off my file(s). And the ca's are really slimy and under the law, and you know what I mean.....thanks again!
