First of all the storefronts are licensed in your state. Before you do default you will need to call them and let them know your situation and try and make payment arrangements with them. But you should contact them and let them know your check is going to come back NSF. If you close your checking account and not tell them they will probably not want to make any kind of arrangements with you. So do not close your account. Most, not all storefronts, will stop all interest on your loan after you default. They will just tack on a NSF fee and a late payment fee, so then any payments you make will go towards paying off the loan and not just the interest. But do contact them BEFORE they get your check back, they are more willing to work with you if you inform them first instead of ignoring their phone calls. Because they can and will take you to court and get a judgment against you if you don't.
