Do you owe any student loans, back child support, or any other federal debt. They don't need to go to court to garnish your check. I would check with your payroll department, they should know who did this.

Ok..If it's a court ordered garnishment, then your employer is obligated to give you a copy of the writ prior to the garnishment beginning, no matter what state you are in. Do you have any PDLS? My money is on this being an assignment. I am an HR rep, can you tell me where on your check it says garnishment? If you can tell me where it says that then I can tell you if I'm right. If it is an assignment, your HR was not obligated to give you a copy of the paperwork, although it's definitely ethical!!! I would!
