The announcer blared from my car radio. "Giant Memorial Day Sale. No Credit No Problem. Every car must go." All that filled in by loud Monday Night Football Music. The supermarkets are pushing hot dogs and rolls and cases of beer. The Indy 500 gets under way. Its MEMORIAL DAY! Its Party Time! I love it too!
But look at the name first. Memorial. It means remember. Lets please remember our troops past and present who fight for our freedom to celebrate how we want. You may or may not support the war. But you must support our troops who can't be at your cookout or watch the Indy! The fireworks they see you would not want to attend!
There is a McDonalds at the camp outside of Mosul. But it is not the USA, it is still a dangerous place.
Fly that flag and show your support this weekend. Hopefully they will be home soon!

Tania - I reposted your kind words in the thread they belong in. Please accept my apologies for moving them in the first place. If I could remerge them I would . . . .

For me, everyday is memorial day. My dad was in Vietnam, Thialand, Korea, my grandfather fought in a WW, I have uncles that have been in Vietnam, have a nephew that was in Iraq, and I have a son planning on going into the Air Force. My thoughts are constantly with our soldiers fighting and with those that are close to that have fought. I think sometimes we get so caught up in having a 3 day weekend and doing what we want that we loose sight of what the holiday is really about. God bless those that have fought and still living, those that have fought and never made it home, and those that are still fighting! And let us not forget the families of these same people, along with all our loved ones we have lost over the years. May their memories live forever in our hearts!
