I wanted to share some sad news with everyone. Thursday afternoon a young girl in our community took her own life. She was a beautiful 15 year old freshman. She had her whole life ahead of her. I am not telling this story to get sympathy. My heart is breaking for her family. I want people to realise that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary situation, and tha no matter how desperate we may feel, that there is always another solution. Please hug your kids and tell them how much you love them, because nothing is more important than our loved ones.

Yes this is a very sad thing to hear about. And, unfortunately the rates for suicides among teens are rising at an incredible speed in this country. In my opinion I think there is just so much pressure put upon our youth via the media. Somehow I pray we as a country can begin to turn things around. And, yes, as one who suffers from mental health issues...please be aware everyone....to really take a person serious if they begin to discuss suicide. The old school thinking was that if they were threatening it or talking about it then they were only seeking attention. This is not true. In fact they are desparately reaching out for help before taking this last drastic action. My prayers go out to ehr family and friends....what a tragedy.

It is so sad to hear about this young girl, and we all have to realize that the rate of depression in young people has risen enormously over the last few years, thus a rise in the suicide and attempted suicide rate in children between the ages of 7 and 21. Yes I said 7. For years it was said that children do not become depressed, but as our technology has grown and the study of Psychology has advanced, it has been found that children do suffer from depression, but their symptoms are not like those in adults. They may act out, become quite, start drinking or using drugs, become belligerent or self destructive. Many times their behavior is passed off as "being a normal teen". With all of the pressure that is put on our children these days by society to excel and be better than next guy or do better than their parents, children loose sight of the fact that they are just that - children. I have experience with this - 2 of my children have suffered from severe depression since they were 8 years old. Luckily - I have a strong background in Psychology and a member of my family is in the profession. After years of the proper counseling and trial and error to find the correct meds they are at a point in their life were the depression is getting better and when they feel the dark cloud coming over them - they call their counselor to chat for a while. I am sorry that this is so long, but this topic hits very close to home with me - over the last few years our family has lost 10 children to suicide and the guilt that accompanies it is devistating. My prayers go out to the family and to the community.

The memorial service for this young woman is today. They have closed the schools here and are having it at the High School. Practically the whole town is shut down today. We are a small community (700). I doubt we even have 60 kids in the High School. Once again I urge any of you with kids to have a talk with them. I got quite an eye opener when I talked with my own 15 year old daughter.

It is such a sad thing when these young people think this is the only way to end their pain. It breaks my heart to hear stuff like this. I know my daughter went through a bad depression and thankfully I got her treatment and she is doing so much better. I have read in her diaries where she wanted to die and just didn't care what happened to her and it is so scary. Sometimes the signs are missed and then something like this happens.

I know around our area, we have had a lot of wrecks that have killed several HS students and have had a lot of parents killing their kids. Our most tragic was a man that decapitated his 4 year old daughter. Happened just a few miles from where I live. That totally made me sick. I just don't know what this world is coming to any more.

It so breaks my heart. My daughter's very close fiend took his life about 5 years ago, the day after they spent the day together. Her panic when no one could find him, and that raw hurt she felt that I could not fix, along with the pain I saw in his family and friends. That is the other part of the tragedy, the after effects. I inadvertantly came across a note that she had written wondering if it was worth it to go on because she hurt so much. Then she wrote that she would never want to put her family through what his was dealing with. I was stunned. There is so much pressure on kids today, they feel they have no way to go above it. I send a prayer to her family.
