Am learning a large lesson

I have never been in debt in my life but my sister has and she just settled out on her own with all of them and now is having trouble getting even one credit card to build her credit back up. I let a stupid guy rule my life but now have a domestic voilence case against him but am in 15000 dollars worth of debt because of him. It was a do ot die situation and I did. Well I am trying to figure out if settlement is really worth it because then I will have trouble when I want to buy a house and possibly have trouble even getting loans to go back to school. I am only 23 and don't even have an associates degree but want to get back into school and also get my debt in order. Any ideas please tell me and when things get better I will update this. There is also consolidation, you can put all your unsecured debt into one monthly payment, with lower interest. Have you tried contacting the creditors to see if they will help you? I had some lower, and some drop the interest so I could pay them off. If you have questions, please ask..KAren
