i JUST GOT A LITTLE PUPPY THE OTHER DAY, A 14 WEEK OLD Chihuahua , it seems like she was abused. i think she has worms as well. i gave her some worm medicine the night i got her and gave her a bath as well. she is very very skiddish. i am going to be taking her to the vet next friday, wanna take her asap but no $$$. i think her front leg was also broken at one point and healed all funny. i feel so bad for this little girl. any advice on puppies would be great. thanks guys!

Brittanie, bless you for rescuing this little baby. :D I think the most important thing is getting her to the vet. My vet lets me write a check and post date it for 14 days in advance. Maybe if you called and explained to them that you just got this puppy and you think she has worms etc they will work something out like that with you. I don't know anything about worms but all I can say is to give this little girl lots of TLC which I know you are. :)

Good....I hope you are able to get her in. I bet you can find a vet that will be understanding and want to see her right away seeing as you just got her and she might have worms. Poor little thing, how could anyone abuse such a sweet little girl? I just cannot deal with people that abuse animals. I have three little dachshunds and they are treated no less than the queens of my house. They are my children. :)

I have an ebook on training "difficult" dogs . . . . While your puppy isn't difficult yet, with her background she may be develop fear aggression. I suppose it couldn't be that bad for a chihuahua, but it bigger dogs it can get pretty dangerous.

But it also has a section on bringing your puppy home, and how to train a puppy. I will find it tonight and email it to you if you want.

I almost named my dog Azreal . . . . After the demon that tried to destroy all of existence in the movie Dogma . . . . . Don't remember why I decided to go with Goudah, but turns out my dog is a lover, not a fighter. Someone could break into my house and all they would have to do is pet him and my dog would probably follow him home!

Once you have an all clear at the vet, the best I can say is...patience. Don't rush it and she will be won over. This little one is prob so scared from the past it will take time & lots of love (which I know you have)for her to realize that you will keep her safe. You will end up with a most loyal pup - they know when they have a good forever home. All my pets have been adopted, and they are the best. What color is she? I can toss around some name ideas too. I agree it has to fit them just right. It took us almost 2 weeks to get the right name for our orphaned kitty. (besides queen of course) lol! her name is Maizy she has alot of goldish orange on her tummy & it made us think of the fall corn..that's where her name came from. good luck, and I can help w doggie info if you need it. :D

You did a great thing by taking an abused puppy into your home. I applaud you for that. I have a male german shepherd who I got from my ex-husband over year ago. We bought him together as a pup but we split up soon after that. Ex kept him because he had the room for him. I took him because ex was moving into an apartment and I live on a farm now. When Deniro was less than a year old, the dog trainer abused him. So did the dog trainers wife because we wouldn't breed our female sheperd to his male. Now, "D" (as we call him) is very sketish around men. He still hasn't warmed up to my husband all that much but he does listen to him. I had problems when he first came here but it took time for him to trust me. He didn't see a lot of people when he lived with my ex for those four years. I would sit in front of his crate for hours and just talk to him. "D" can be very scarey when he's growling at you, even through a crate door. Two weeks later he ran away and got hit by a car. He didn't know his way back home yet and I was so scared. We spent two days looking for him. I was scared that he was dead or would hurt someone. The neighbors even helped us look. I took my female shepherd out and we tracked him down at a neighbor's house in the woods. His poor leg was all swollen and bone was sticking out. Ugh, I will never forget that. "D" did manage to jump into the truck and I took him to the vet. Now, here came the fun part. Luckily, there was a female vet on duty. We actually really bonded over the next couple of months while his leg was healing. Today, he is my bestest bud and is getting better with people, including men. There is always people around our house. Last week, my brother-in-law came for a visit. "D" made fast friends with him. He is slowly trusting people because he is being socialized more.
You will want to take time and be patient with your new little one. I'm sorry this is so long but I just love animals. It's probably why I have four cats and five dogs. I got a pekingese for Christmas and I went through several names with him. He is known as Chester or Chess Chess for short LOL!

I know this name might not sound all that great, but when I was a little girl my brother and I found a little puppy (mostly mutt) that had been hit by a car she was just lying on the side of the road crying. We both begin to cry ourselves, so my brother without giving it a thought took his shirt off picked her up and we headed home were we just as a matter of fact told our parents that we were meant to have this dog or we wouldn't have found her when we did. They couldn't argue, so we went to the animal emergency vet got her fixed up and we name her MIRACLE, because to us she was. I just sat here and started to cry remembering that story. By the way that happened when I was 10 and she lived believe it or not until I was 32.
