These lenders should never have lent to you in the first place...All you legally owe them is the amount you borrowed from them. Send them letters stating your state laws, file complaints with your Attorney General!

I would also close your account, that will free up your money to use for what you need to use it for. As Leah said, you only owe what you borrowed and nothing more. Make sure you file a complaint with the AG in your state. Send these companies a letter stating that you revoke your authorization to debit your account, any wage assignment, to contact your employer or place of employment, etc. Tell they that you will only communicate with them via email or USPS so you can have, in writing, what has transpired between you and them. Then just be prepared for the phone calls and nastiness. Know they cannot put you in jail or anything like that and THEY DO have to abide by your states laws. Hang in there!

How would I know if they are legal? Can they still collect money from me if they are not liscened in CT? What can I do?

I have something to add to this. I had to close out my bank account due to circumstances beyond my control. Well, we had two pdl's that we had every intention of paying back. We've paid at least the amount we owe on both and now a man is calling me saying they are going to charge us with bank fraud. We live in Maryland. So, is this possible?
No, you can't be charged with a crime for defaulting on a loan.
No, you can't be charged with a crime for defaulting on a loan. If that were the case they'd have to build a whole bunch more prisions!
This is a common lie they will tell to try to scare you into paying.

Thank goodness. We didn't intentionally do it, but it's just rediculous. We borrowed $150 from Early Payday Advance and so far we've paid $198. Which are their fees. Another one we had is with Integrated Financial Services for $300 and we've paid $270 in fees. Do you know how to settle this?

Yeah, this company keeps calling everyone of our references making threats like this is your final warning and all, but not us and they have our number. Now my other loan that I paid all but $30 back has been sold or transferred to Westbury Ventures in Delaware. They are claiming that we need to pay them $300 but so far I've already paid $270 on a $300 loan. Any suggestions?

I have paid everything that I legally owe and yet here I still receive these lovely things. I will never give out my bank info again.

Also note that I currently possess all necessary information to proceed against you in the event that you fail to remit payment on or before 8/24/07. Please adhere to the conditions of this memo immediately. Thank you.

Vilma - to answer your question, NONE of your lenders are licensed to lend into CT, because CT law PROHIBITS payday lending!
I would pay back the principal only (from a moral standpoint - it's your choice whether you do or not), based on the fact that they lent into your state illegally.
vilma
vilma, listen to suebee. Your state prohibits pdl's. So, of course, they are not going to be licensed. You need to take care of that checking account so the pdl's can no longer hit it causing you more money problems. Please read the "sticky" regarding closing your account. If you have any questions regarding this, please post. You need to stop these pdl's from debiting you any further. They will never stop. Please post with any questions or if you need help with anything.
PDLs
Billysgirrrl.........just some advice, ( based on personal experience). I had several PDL's coming out of my account. Of course..no money left after everything was taken out. I explained the entire situation with the manager of my bank. What I did was I 'stopped payment', on each payment ( fee from PDL's) and freed up alot of money. Since the PDL's are illegally taking out outrageous fees, in the first place, BY LAW ( in my state, anyway..PA), they couldn't do this. I'm not saying this 'route' will work for you, just telling you my 'solution' to my own issue. i still get CA sending me letters, petaining to the PDL's, however..this way I can handle this the LEGAL way, and pay back ONLY what I barrowed. Hope this makes sense.

Follow 2ndbands advice do not give out any of your new banking account information as somehow these places manages to get ahold of this information and illegally debit your accounts. Pay close attention to your statements and if anything wacky shows up report it to your bank.

sdchargers: Thanks a bunch. Sorry it took me so long to get that post. I haven't been able to get on in a while. With the business and all. It does make a lot of sense. Here in MD they are illegal as well. I did of course already close out my bank account, but if somehow they get my new account I will inform them. I had wanted to change banks for a while anyway because of the ridiculous fees my bank was charging for other things and also my new bank has much better hours!! They are so awesome.
