Second, garnishment can only happen if a court order says that it is legal to do so. Thirdly, and this is where you possess the power; It is illegal for a collection agency to threaten wage garnishment. Please file an online complaint with your states Attorney Generals Office in regards to the illegal threats. They have violated federal laws in doing so. Also, do you know the name of the collection company who threatened you?

Or you can hire a debt consultant to negotiate with your creditors. They will fix up a plan with your creditors and according to your present financial situation.
