Are your card debt still in the hands of the credit card companies? Or are they in the hands of third party collectors. If they are still in the hands of the card companies you may be able to call them and work something out. It would be hard to sue you overseas and they would find working something out would be beneficial for everyone. collection agencies won't sue you. They will threaten you and try to scare you but they can't sue you as you did not borrow the money from them. They either bought the debt or have been hired as an independent contractor to collect as much as they can. Only the primary lender can sue you. But beware, a collector can give the debt back to the lender and the lender can still sue you. That just happened to me. But thats my story for another thread.

Keep in mind that the SOL might have stopped until you are out of the country. There are chances that when you return back to the country, the creditor might have got a legal case against you and put a default judgment. You might have to pay the debt through court orders including their costs and attorney fees. My suggestion would be to call the original creditor and know the status of your account. Then you might be interested in working out a plan.
