is it possible to just send the companies a desist letter on ach deposits without closing your account or does your bank account have to be closed? i have direct deposit and several checks out that i don't want to bounce.

When dealing with online lenders, the smartest thing to do is close your account. They will continue to hit the account even after receiving the revoke of authorization of ach debits. You could ask your bank to put a block on the account, but I have read that the plds are getting sneaky and sending through a check or using their affiliates name to get the money.
