We got a copy of our credit report and see Weltman, Weinberg, & Reis requested a copy a few months back.We had an account a few months back that ended up with them which we ended up paying off.I'm just questioning if they are permitted to get our credit report without our authorization? What do they need with it anyhow? Any ideas, thoughts? Thank you all again for your help. This site does make a difference for a whole lot of people. Well done.

I guess I'm curious as to why they would do this.I wasn't applying for any loan from them. They certainly weren't going to/nor do they have any kind of credit offer for me.I guess because they are a collections type of business an instant dislike is created and you feel like they are just intruding needlessly into your business.Seems like if I am not looking for a loan and they are not offering one,why are they getting my credit report.

If you paid your account with them in full,it might be a nonpermissible pull.A data furnisher/creditor must have a legal permissible reason to pull your credit or they risk being sued under Fcra for actual damages, statutory damages, and attorney fees. If your account is paid in full and there are no other accounts with them, contact an attorney to assist you in your claim for damages under the Fcra.

cajunbulldog, thank you for the information. Would I need to find out if they pulled my report before or after we paid the account off? If they pulled it before we paid off the account, this would be permissable? If after we paid account off, not permissable? Am I understanding this correctly? Thank you again.

I worked for them for 2 years and I really would suggest that you call your original creditor and get a proof of payment in full or settled in full letter. Otherwise WWR will call you 4-5 times a day, every day until they get their money or proof that you paid it. Fax the letter to them then call right after you faxed the letter to make sure they got it. Also, get them to notify the creditor that you have paid it and call the creditor back to make sure it is updated on your credit report. They will garnish you or put a lien against any property or attach your bank account. Good Luck.

I see no reason for a consumer to help wwr do their darn job. I am sorry you have enough loyalty to come here but I cannot see myself running a end run around a collector to do his job for him.If he wants to collect on a debt that has been paid in full,I would let him break the law and get my $1000 check from him for my troubles.

You can send them a Cease and Desist letter. State that you have told them they have the wrong person for 9 months and they continue to call, and you want them to cease and desist from contacting you again. Be sure and make a copy and to sent the letter certified, return receipt to them.

Is this someone you know they are looking for, or they just completely got the wrong person?

Good Luck..karen
