Debt Settlement with Encore Collections

My husband and I have been diligently working to clean up our credit. I have encountered a situation where. We settled a debt with Encore Collections then we received a balance from the original creditor. Stating that they don’t except the settlement even though they get the money we sent to the collection agency. My question is can they do this? Legally what can we do?

You need to speak to Encore Collections and know the status of your account. They are required to update your payments to the original creditor with the settlement offer. You must also ask for the "Settled in Full" letter from the CA because that's how they showed the account to you.
