Does a collection agency have to be licensed in Ohio to collection on a debt? If they do need to be registered, is there an online database for Ohio? If so, where can I find it?

Thanks

I called the district manager where I received the pdl and asked her why would you turn me over to collections? I have a signed document from your store that you would accept Town and Country's proposal. The DM said the manager of that store should have never signed the paper so we are not going by that paper. The DM then told me they let go of the manager for signing that paper. I know T&C sent a check on the 30th of May but I need to see if the company cashed it. Is this ok for them to say we are not going by that paper? What if Legal Mediation Services but this on my credit report? My credit is shot, but I don't want any new collection accounts added one when I'm trying to get out of my mess. Thanks for everyone's help.

There is absolutely, positively NO LICENSE required in Ohio for Collection Agencies. The state of OHIO regulates everything else, including Invention Development companies (because the state thinks that industry is sleazy), but NOT Collection Agencies -- which are at the TOP of the sleaze food chain, imho.

to Anthony Lemons re agencies to avoid in OHIO.
something fraudulent going on in Columbus. an agency contact last week, using a voice automated system, to collect on a 7 year old debt that was settled 2 years ago directly with the creditor. calling themselves CBCS; but not sending out validation letter, trying to collect with credit or debit card over the phone. unwilling to give out physical address. if ohio won't do anything about governing them the ftc has guidelines they aren't following. so plan to do my part & file complaints w ftc. thanks 4 your blog.

Ohio laws govern the conduct of collection agencies in ohio

google ohio statutes and use only the .gov site

title 13 governs CA's
