My bills have been overwhelming and i am currently in collections as well. I'm a single mother of 3 children and am working full time trying to make an honest living. As far as i know i owe over 3,000 dollars in debt and my water just got shut off for 110.00, which will be 143 to turn it back on. My pg&e is due on the 29th of $101. I will not be able to pay that as well. But most importantly my rent.. Is 1100 due on the 20th. I have only 400 dollars to my name which i can't use because i'm trying to come up with the rest for my rent. I've never been this bad off but i have no idea how to get back up. I've never had a credit card, i don't have a lot of credit and the credit that i do have is messed up. I need help...

I am very sorry to hear about your situation. I hope the consultant is able to help in your situation. He will work out a plan with your creditors and you are allowed to pay according to what you can afford now.

If possible, it will be good to have some extra part time jobs. This will help in paying the bills faster.

One thing that you could try is to make payment arrangements with the bills that are past due. I have done that in the past. Have you tried to apply for any assistance? I don't know where you live but is there a chance to get a cheaper place to rent? I know easier said than done. I have been there, but when I got past due on my rent I called my landlord and made arrangements with him. I even offered an extra $50 for the trouble. I now pay him in small amounts. I send checks for each payday so I divided my rent into 4 checks and he is ok with that, even though the last check for the month is for that same month. but he knows I am in a situation right now and will get back on track when I go back to work. So for me it is easier to pay $132.50 per week than try and come up with the $530 all at once. But they do have housing assistance usually through the county you live in. Give it a try. They also have heat/elec. assistance.

The person who calls you may be able to help you out. But until then try and make arrangements and be honest when you call them, when they hear your situation they may be more willing to help you.

You said you have PG&E, so you must live in California. Have you called them for a payment arrangement? I know that they can be jerks, but possibly you qualify for their lifeline service? Ask them what the income guidelines are for 4 people in the house. Have you tried the Salvation Army? I know they can help with back rent and utility bills. If you are in the Bay Area, I would also try Shelter,inc--as I know they do the same thing. Good luck to you and feel free to PM me.
