I had a debt from when I was 18 got a credit card and maxed it out at $2000 and couldnt make the payments at the time, well about a year later I got a served from a lawyers office that bought my debt from the credit card company. I went to court and agreed to pay $200 hundred a month until paid off with no interest as long as I paid monthly. Well sent payment for 6 months, thinking nothing wrong, well I finally got a letter from the lawyers office showing more than agreed to pay was still owed, I called and they said I hadnt paid since agreement, told them address I sent to and they had moved without notifing me, and said they didnt recieve payment. I used money orders at time because they were putting holds on my bank account before, I made the mistake of losing the receipts cant prove I had been paying. I refuse to send anymore payments to them because I beleive they are trying to screw me. Well now they sent me a letter telling me they have right to use sheriff to inforce payment. What can I do the orignal deal was for $3800 no they say I owe them over $10,000?

Thats a new one on me. Using a sheriff to enforce payment. Sounds like some scam artist at work. KYSIDE38

Can you go to the court where the case was filed and verify the papers with the clerk? He should have some proof of the agreement done with the law office. Then you might be able to prove that the law office is trying to collect more than the agreed amount and they didn't notify you about the address change where you were sending the payments.
