I have just come back from my second visit to the local branch. During the first visit, I closed my checking acct. to stop ACH debits from pdl companies that I have paid at least twice over again. Unfortunately, a debit card purchase I made the night before (and had forgotten about) tried to post and I freaked out.

This morning, I returned to the branch and expressly told them I had closed the account due to fraud and it needed to remain closed! I have a zero balance, they told me it was "pending" closed (apparently it takes 3-5 days) but that it was being monitored daily until then (they showed me the paper work) to ensure that no more activity could post to that account.

Question is, does anyone have any experience with Bank of America in this situation? I'm concerned that pdl debits due this Friday are going to force open the account even though I was told that it would not happen!

I personally did not deal with Bankof America. However I know that some members have and have not had good experiences. Some one will come along and post. I hope everything works out for you. Best Wishes KYSIDE38

I went to BOA and they brought my account up to zero by refunding the NSF charges. They would not allow me to close it unless it was positive "for a while". The next payday came and the PDLs hit it hard multple times. I went to the manager and she put the account on "deposit only" status but would not refund the NSF fees which were around 800.00. I filed a complaint with the Office of the Controller of Currency who is the watch dog agency over national banks. OCC as they are called. The next time collections called I told them of the complaint and they immediately reversed the charges. But they put the account back in normal status and along come good old Route66 funding and they try to take out money. The account was still slightly negative so the attempt failed. I called and they reversed that charge but now I have to go back to the branh to have the deposit only status returned until I close the account. The problem is that I can't get there until the weekend and I sure that on the 30th Route 66 will try again. What a pain. But the good thing is I do not owe them 800.00 anymore. Thats my BOA story in a nutshell!

Now you've got me worried. I have BOA and just closed my acct yesterday. I was told by the branch person I dealt w/ that nothing could post. Now I wonder if that was true. She didn't say anyhting about 3-5 days. Got my fingers crossed here hope she was right. I'm trying to take control back not sink deeper.

btrx, didn't mean to worry you but...I don't think crossing your fingers is going to do it! Do yourself a favor and call their 800 number and ask for a Consumer Banking Special-ist! Explain the situation and tell them to block all incoming transactions! I was given that advice just a few minutes ago on this forum and it worked! They assured me that NOTHING (not d.b.a or an alias or even the "paper check" attempt by any pdl will go through! Like I was told, once you mention that you're working with the State Attorney's Office, they tend to be very compliant.

AAARGH! called the 1-800# and was told that 2 pdls attempted to debit today and were listed as pending. if they go thru the acct will be forced back open and fees applied. The consumer bank rep. told me the acct was listed as closed status so they should be rejected but I should call tomorrow in am to make sure. He also said b/c of the "closed status" not just "pending closed status" that any fees should be adjusted. Thanks for letting me know to check on this. What a mess! Payday loans--NO,NO,NO! NEVER AGAIN!!!!

What you need to do as an extra precaution is to write to your payday lenders and expressly tell them not to debit your checking account anymore. I would recommend e-mail and fax at this point since the date is so close. I never dealt with Bank of America either but I'm sorry that you are going through this mess. You have the write to revoke the ach debits from your account. Do this ASAP! Good luck :)

HI all! Ok I called BOA today and was told nothing got through and it is showing closed. I re-asked to make sure everything is blocked and was told yes. Also re: the pdls I have written 2 emails to each of them revoking all calls, wage assignments and debits but still 2 of them tried to debit- 500fastcash and cashnetusa. I got an email from cashnet stated their revocation policy and that under EFTA they are permitted preauthorized electronic funds transfer. also got email from paydayone (this is the pdl i still owe to) saying they would stop and sent me an address to mail in payments. haven't heard from others yet and no one is mentioning my pif request or refund. should I send the revoke email again?

I gust got a letter from 500fastcash and they will not stop trying to debit, they are xxxholes! Told me my letter was full of misleading and incorrect information and that the fdcpa only applies to third party collectors. Unfortunately, my bank is not as helpful. I am stuck until I can open a new account and hope that this will be the last check they get from me. It looks like at this time, only 4 will try to debit tomorrow. It sucks!
