Is there anyone in here that has dealt with PDL's and banks in the state of Ohio? Any suggestions when contacting both to get them to help me?
Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forum. There a a few of us here in Ohio who have dealt with pdls. Can you give us some more inforomation? What pdls are you dealing with? Are the internet or storefront? How long have you been paying on the and how much have you paid so far?

Also, if you are dealing with internet payday loans make sure you file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office, that can be done online. And the best route to go is getting a new bank account all together, these ipdls go by so many DBA's it is nearly impossible to list them all to block on your account, and they also trying slipping an electronic check into the bank when they are blocked from debiting from your account. If you have storefronts, best option is to make repayment arrangements with them and stick to them, they will say they don't have to do this, they don't do this, but OH laws states they must allow you to do this. Please list the ipdls you are dealing with others can give you a heads up on what to experience with them when in default. The AG was of GREAT help to me in getting mine marked "Paid In Full".

I also bank with Chase. I spoke with the branch manager. She was nice - but not very helpful. She deferred me to the Fraud Department. I asked the gentleman in the Fraud department to stop the hundreds of attempts from these companies. I asked them to put a "hard block" on the account, and he claimed he has worked in banking for 16 years and has never heard of such a thing!
Any advice?

I had that same problem with my bank. They claim they cannot do such a thing. I could only stop payment and that would cost me not to mention that they would end up still going through if they alter the payment or company name.

Also, whereami.... I contacted the dept of fin institutions and the lady (although she did seem extremely distracted and annoyed) claimed that there was not a law in Ohio that requires them to make a payment plan with us... is this correct?

The storefronts that you just mentioned are all licensed in the state of OH. Checksmart & Express Payroll Advance are sister companies, and National Check Cashers & Always Payday are also sister companies. I used to bank with Chase also and they had told me that once these licensed companies have my acct #, they can try and debit at anytime, especially if they know a direct deposit is due to hit. Since, I got screwed up in the mess, I closed that bank account.

Thanks brownsugar. I am going to beg and plead with the branch manager to see if there is anything else we can do. We have already transferred all of our paychecks to my husband's savings account through his company. I just didn'T want to lose this account, as we will not be able to get a new one b/C of check systems.
Since you did close your account, what did Chase/the PDLs do? Did you get taken to court? We are attempting to contact these places but we can'T get past the nasty collectors. Did you write these places?

Yes, actually it is in the law they are supposed to work out repayment arrangements with the consumer. You should also contact the AG's office as well. It is a crap shoot when you call offices, the AG's office knows the laws better than anybody. And I have a man's name who worked with me on starting a dos'ia (spelling is wrong), anyway it is a file, it was started for dealing with ipdls. He and my contact at the AG's office will state that the law requires a replayment plan.

Just ask if the OH laws regarding payday loans require the licensed payday loan companies to let the consumer have a repayment plan if they go into default. If you feel they are violating the law then you would need to file a complaint with the AG's office if you want help with mediation with the pdl companies.

I closed the acct at Chase and just went to another bank so I wouldn't have to worry about it. I did receive a letter in the mail from Franklin County Municipal Court saying I have a court mediation hearing with Checksmart, but I didn't bother attending b/c I included them in my BK.

Thanks whereami and brownsugar. I just need to decide if I want to continue to battle with these PDLs myself or just go with the consolidation place. I 99% sure you are right whereami regarding it being the law for them to do payments, because when we did contact the consolidation place they said that they had worked with all of my PDLs in the past and that they have agreed to do payment plans. I'm sure it's because they had to!
Anyway, thanks again - you have been extremely, extremely helpful!
