daughter has maxed out her credit cards

First of all, since you registered a counselor will call you after the weekend. They will explain consolidation and settlement and point out some reputable companies. You are never under any obligation.

So..You've already taken the first step! In the meantime, browse the forums. A lot of people here have been in the same situation as your daughter. You will find some great advice and perspective here. Please ask any questions you have..Trust me, we've been there, and we're here to help! :D

If she hasn't already, see if the credit cards can be closed. Also she might want to call the credit card companies to see if they will work out a repayment plan with her. That might be a place to start until you talk to a counselor.
