The Saga of closing my bank account
Date: Sat, 07/07/2007 - 10:23
So, then I called customer service and after jumping through 20 hoops to get someone on the phone, he tells me that he can place locks on amounts that have previously been charged but that it takes 10 business days to process. Which he and I both agreed doesn't help my situation. I asked him about what Wendy at my local bank said, and he said that she was basically full of it. He said that Bank of America closes the account in one business day and that any further debit, ach transactions, checks etc will be returned to the companies. He said that the only way I would owe Bank of America something is if charges went through on the same business day that I closed the account.
So, Monday I will be going into my bank closing the account and MOVING ON. Bank of AMerica has caused me so much grief in the bast 4 years anyways. GOOD RIDDANCE!
Meanwhile, I opened a new account with Citibank and already am on my way to recovery.
BTW I already got the form letter back from mypaydayloan.com that told me i have to abide by the laws of costa rica, HAH! I've paid them 1200 dollars already on a 400 dollar loan and they offered me a settlement in the amount of 400 dollars with no finance fees made in two payments, uh I don't think so.
I'll keep you guys updated as to how it goes!
Good for you! I am glad that you are abl;e to close that account
Good for you! I am glad that you are abl;e to close that account! You would think that the 1st bank employee would know the correct info. I have not had any PDL, but I have learned enough from posts to advise a family member to NOT GO THERE, or this is what could happen - so this place has been some preventive medicine as well. I know I have also seen posts on requesting a refund of overpayment on PDL's. There are people who have the complete info on fees per state to help you figure out if you have overpaid on them. PLease keep us posted, and welcome to the forum!!

Congratulations Shark!! That's great news about your bank....I talked to 2 people at one branch of my bank and 2 at another...and none of them did anything to help me!! They finally closed me account after over 1K of nsf charges...I have written to the CEO, loss prevention and the president of both bank branches I talked to and have not heard a word from them.

morningstarr, CALL your banks corporate office. I know I sent a letter and got a response, so I consider myself lucky in that respect. But if you CALL the corporate office, you might be able to get someone to take your complaint. Tell them it is regarding a complaint. Ask for the bank president - you won't get the president - but you will get a representative. And I found that my actual bank BRANCH wasn't really going to do a whole lot for me until I emailed them that I had been in contact with the corporate office. Things went well from there. The bank branch is okay. But the corporate office is better. And if they're not responding to your letter, CALL them. Hell, I would. But, you know me, I'll fight it. At least it's worth a shot. And then let your bank branch know you've contacted the corporate office. I just called the damn branch and got the email of the manager and sent her emails almost daily regarding what was going on.I really do think people do things just to SHUT ME UP! LOL! But, honestly, give it a try. If they don't respond to your letter, call them. Call them again and again until you get a response. I can't see you being responsible for that money. I told them it was a bank error. And I firmly believe it was. I stuck with my opinion and expressed it to each person I talked to or emailed.
I guess my biggest problem is you know how I hate to make waves!
I guess my biggest problem is you know how I hate to make waves!!! I guess I feel like if I call them they are going to demand the money right now...and of course I don't have it..scares me...
morningstarr
I completely understand. I think I was just so mad, I didn't care! LOL! They will NOT demand your money. My conversation included a part where IF I was responsible for any fees (and I wasn't!) that it would have to be paid off, and you can just make payments. But, you have to try! I got all mine reversed off! And, also, they explained it takes TIME for all this to happen, so you'r buying time right there. But, in my case, I argued enough about it and I firmly believe I was correct, that they took action and got it resolved. Hey, morningstarr, what do you have to lose by calling? Nothing. And you might gain something - getting those charges taken care of and get back to a zero balance. Don't worry about them asking for you to pay them the money. But, please at least try calling. If you speak to someone - not just some "little" person at your bank - you might get results. To me, it was not an error on my part. Which is the case for you also. That is what I stated and stood by it. It was a bank error. If you keep stressing that, they'll probably work with you on it. Just my advice, morningstarr! But, please call. I hate to see your account so screwed up and you not even try to see if they'll work with you!!
