How do get PDLs to accept payment plan?
Date: Tue, 07/10/2007 - 09:05
I have contacted all of my PDLs in writing (via email, fax, and just placed it into the mail) regarding revoking their right to debit my account and setting up a payment plan. The few companies that have contacted me back are stating that my payment plan of $100 a month is not acceptable. Granted these have only been CALLS back to us and from those nasty collectors. Is there any suggestions as to what to do next? Should I just send them payments in the mail - because I am told that they will always take the money???
Payments
Make sure you block the debits from your bank account! They will continue to debit your account even though you sent them letters. Been there - done that. A couple of my pdl's agreed to me mailing payments in via money order and gave me an address because THEY HAD NO OTHER WAY to get money from me since they couldn't debit any longer. And, that's what they stated. They said "since we have no other way to receive payments from you." So I mailed money orders in to them. If they can't debit your account any longer (put a block on it/close it/whatever) they will have to agree to some other alternative form of payment. I do not agree with Money Gram or Western Union, personally. A lot of pdl's will ask for Money Gram or Western Union. I tell them if they can't give me an address to mail a money order to, then they won't get a payment.

Yeah, a lot of companies are going to tell you they won't accept anything less then payment in full, but they will take your money. I would make sure to keep very detailed records of all payments, send the payments money order with a copy of your letter detailing your payment plan, and just keep doing that.
goudah
Do as goudah says. Document, document, document. Make copies of EVERYTHING. Send copies of EVERYTHING. That way they know you're not stupid, as they think we all are. But, the hard part may be getting a mailing address out of them. With some digging, I'm sure you can get one. If not, you can post and someone may be able to find one for you.

I have an appointment with my branch manager this evening and will be providing copies of all the letters that I sent out. So, I am assuming this is the final step in making sure that they can'T debit my account any longer.
Since the majority of my PDLs are store-fronts - can I just send the payment to the store???

I would ask them where you should send the payment to. Some may want you to send to the store, while others may want it to go to the corp office. It all just depends.
Storefront
Ahhh, they're store front. A manager at a store front I've used told me that 99% of the time THEY will work with the customer. You can go in each week or every two weeks or whatever your payday is and make a payment. He said sometimes they will send it out to collections. In that case, you'll have to make your payments to the collection agency. However, if you call your store fronts, talk to the MANAGER, and see what you can do, they might say okay to coming into the store on your payday and taking payments. And they'll give you receipts. If they want to be NASTY and send you to collections, then that's fine, too. You can just make payments to the agency they send you to. Whichever. But try to talk to the MANAGER and see if you can work it out to where you can just go to the store and make your payments.

I have actually tried it at one store so far. The store I went to was uneventful. The lady at the window claimed that she did not have a manager there and that we were to deal with their collection department and gave me the #. Which I called (stupidly). I was fully prepared on what to expect, and they threw the same threats around like I knew they were going to (after reading this site). I didn'T actually try to make a payment yet, as my account is still negative due to fees from all of this crap! But, I have taken care of everything I can right now until my next payday.
I did take care of the bank situation and did email/fax/ and mail the revoking letter to the PDLs and talked to my bank.
Bank
At least you got your bank account under control! That's really important. So that's good. If the "girl at the window" of the store (who really doesn't count) says there's no manager, I'd call the store again and ask for the manager. I mean, if it comes down to it and you're already turned over to collections, well, just make them your payments. They have to take payment arrangments. But I would keep trying to talk to the store front managers and see if you can pay them. If not, oh well! At least you can make payments to a collection agency. And put in writing to them (the agencies) that they are NOT to contact you via telephone. They can contact you via mail only.

Maybe if you contact them and explain your situation they will be more likely to work out something with you. This way they know you acknowleged you debt and you have every intention on paying it. I did that with mine and at first they didn't want to make any arrangements but when I told them to either accept this or nothing and they chose to accept whatever I could pay each month.
c38
c38, good for you! The manager at the store front I've been to told me they just want their money back. Basically that's it in a nut shell. So, of course, they're going to want it ALL. But if it comes down to it and you tell them you can come in and make payments because it is NOT POSSIBLE to pay it in full, they will more than likely take the offer. The store front manager I spoke with said that 99% of store fronts will take payments. It may take some persuading, but most of them will do it so they get their money back. And like c38 said, it's either payments or nothing. I do believe if I was a store front manager, I'd take the payments! And, by the way, they're supposed to "freeze" the fees if you're making payments on your loan.
