If I send a verification of debt letter to a collector, do they have a limited amount of time respond with verification?

Thanks.

I believe they have 30 days to respond to your request. If you don't hear something again, you can always resend another request. That way if they do try to sue, you have a paper trail to cover you legally and show you attempted to contact them and they failed in their legal burden to prove the debt is in fact yours. Also, if they are reporting negatively on your credit report, but fail to validate the debt, you can dispute to have it removed on your report as well.

There is no time limit on a collector to validate debt.If you send it within first 30 days of initial contact, they must cease all collection efforts until they can properly validate. To catch them in a deadline, you would have to do a dispute with the credit bureaus at the concurrent time of dv with collector.

I had been told that due to the Data Protection Act in the UK, British companies cannot transfer consumer's information outside the UK, to a foreign parent company or anyone else. Example, Equifax UK cannot by British law share information with Equifax USA, Capital One UK cannot share information with Capital One USA etc etc. I wondered if anyone could confirm this?
