I'm starting to receive threatening phone calls from Ambassador aka Nationwide Cash. I live in NY and have paid them $407.50 for a $350 loan. they are located in Espanola, NM. Are they legal and can someone tell me exactly how much I might owe them according to the laws in my state. Thanks!

It is my understanding that they are only licensed in NM. Did you complain to your AG? They would not bend with me at all until my state's AG contacted them. Once the AG contacted them, they wasted no time contacting me and offering to settle for the principle (I had not overpaid them like you had.) I hope that this info helps!!!

I did complain to my AG, but have not heard anything from them yet. perhaps I should send them another email letting them know that they are illegal in NY and that the attorney general has been notified. do you think this will bring about any results? Also, how much more do I owe if I already pd 405 for a 350 loan anyway?

I think that since the payday loans are illegal in NY and they are not licensed in your state, you have paid them plenty. I would think that you would only be responsible for the principle which you have paid back already. I would send them a copy of the complaint that you filed with the AG along with an email. Also, let your AG know that they are continuing to threaten you. I know the NY AG is really going after the illegal pdl places. I do not know how fast they move....it took Nationwide a while to actually respond to my state's AG.
