I have just signed up with A law firm that does debt settlements. They are in the process of faxing a power of attorney to my creditors telling them to not contact me and to start dealing with them. Can my creditors still sue me while I am in this program. I really scared about one of them that sent me a letter from an attorney. Please answer my post. Any help would be appreciated.

In my opinion this is one of the biggest problems with debt settlement firms. If they are unable to represent you in court,I would not go with one. While they are waiting on account to charge off creditors are receiving no payments at all and some of them will not stand for it.They will move to litigate.

Lindsay, put all your queries to the law firm with whom you will be signing the contract. They will answer all your questions before signing the contract. They also need to keep you informed about the negotiations done with the creditors.

What is the current status of your account? If your accounts are already in default for a long time, they will start the negotiations soon. You don't need to worry as long as the law firm is able to get a positive response from your creditors. Get all your queries answered by the representative who is handling your case.

My accounts have been in default for awhile I think that is why I received a letter from a law firm. This is the one I am afraid of. What should I do if I get a summons while I waiting for the firm to contact my creditory. Will they be able to help me? I am living in fear now anytime there is a knock at my door I am scared to death. I was hoping this debt settlement program would help.
