Garnishment against me for an auto loan

i had a garnishment against me for a auto loan back in 2004.after 2 years of payments i switch to a new employer and for the last 2 1/2 years i never heard another word from them.today that changed they contacted my employer with a garnishment saying i still owe 12,000 to them.i gave the car back before the first garnishment they resold the car.i cannot afford to have 25% of my pay taken i will never have enough to pay my bills.what should i do?i ask why they waited 2 1/2 years to do this and she said they could not find me.i live in the same zip code and i have only waorked for 1 place since my last employer.i am very very stressed any help or ideas whould be great.thank you for your time.

Perhaps you can contact the attorney that is filing the motion to garnish your wages and make payment arrangements with them to keep them from garnishing. I did this with a company that was threatening to garnish my wages. It was for a much smaller amount but it is worth a try.
