My husband called me this afternoon and said that his company may not be able to stop his direct deposit before next week's paycheck!!! It could still go into the old account. WHAT THE??? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DELETE SOME NUMBERS FROM A COMPUTER, THEY DO THEIR OWN PAYROLL!!!! My payroll dept took out one number and put in the new one, DONE...just like that.
They are going to TRY and if they can, they will cut him just ONE paper check for that week and then process his new direct deposit. This could be REALLY, REALLY BAD! That account is sooooooo in the negative!!!!!!!!!!!!

That stinks! I would continue to put the pressure on - to stop the direct deposit should be seamless. I can understand setting it up for a new deposit may take a few cycles. To stop my deposit it took one email. It took me a few weeks to get the new routing number on my new account so I missed the cutoff and have had two paper checks but this next one should go in the new account. Is there anyway he can claim fruadulent activity on the old account? I have to believe there is a way to make an immediate stop. If the employee was terminated you can be sure they would have the capability of puttin on a hard stop!

Right, when you terminate employment then they issue a paper check for the final one and immediately stop direct deposit. My company does too. I don't know what their
**** problem is! Like me day was going so well anyway before this, UH NOT!!!! Sorry, that's a whole other story!!! Today was like Monday all over again!

My employer can only stop your direct deposit if you notify them prior to that week's payroll run - we are paid on Thursday, and payroll is run on Wednesday, so if you want to change anything, it has to be done by Tuesday.

bflow...I really hope this works out for you - I know how stressed you must be. Please keep us posted!

Our company can stop them pretty quickly also, but like mentioned, it has to be done before payroll is ran. If he does not get a paycheck until NEXT Wed, I would not know why they could not get it stopped. especially if they do their own payroll. I would have him try to push the issue on it and see what he can get done. Hope it works out for you!

Calm, bflow. You're head is going to explode. First of all, I told my employer that fraudulent activity has been on my account and it is closed and direct deposit had to be stopped immediately. It was done that day. Your husband needs to tell them there has been fraudulent activity and the account is closed. They can issue him a paper check. There is no reason they can not do this, as you are stating fraud charges on your bank account. Call him and tell him to do this!

bflow, it CAN be done. He needs to stress the urgency of the matter. Large corporations, small companies, third party payroll companies can all do a change in a matter of minutes. He needs to stress the fraud factor and tell them the account is closed. If they claim they can not "stop" his direct deposit for whatever reason, that's crap. We've done it for our guys and then issued them a paper check. We even had one instance where the direct deposit was already in process and at the urgency of one of our guys, we put a "stop" on the direct deposit amount and issued him a check instead. It can be done. He needs to be persistant about it.

I guess they opened a savings account for him and deposited his bonus check into it on Thursday. Here is my dilemma, for anyone out there with a banking background or anyone that knows....
They opend it with REgions and Regions just bought out my Amsouth BANK! So, if they connect the dots soon enough, they can actually take what is in the savings account, correct??? to pay off the negative checking account?

Good news....they say the two systems don't merge and I am working with the TDFI to get Amsouth/Regions to comply with my request to clear the negative balance. The TDFI says they should have already taken care of it since I did everything the way it was to be done, mailed, etc to the companies 3 days preceding the withdrawal from my account and told them to stop. The bank said.....they have no idea what type of contract I entered into with "said" companies and they would only take of the overdraft fees. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

one key stroke is all it takes with a big /semi big or even /semi small company to stop the deposits guess it may depend on if payroll is weekly bi-weekly or monthly?

With my company, which is HUGE, we can stop it ourselves on line going to the HR section of our intranet, which we can also access from home. The only criteria is that we do it before payroll for that period is officially closed, which is the Monday after the end of the pay period. If we do it after that, payroll is already being run and it's too late.
