Hey Guys and Gals,

How can I find out if a money order I sent to a collection agency (bank) has been cashed and when it was cashed? I live in IL.

james - contact the company you purchased the money order from. If you have the receipt, their phone number or website should be right on the receipt. If not, check them out on Google and see if you can find a website or contact information for them. But to my knowledge, all of the major money order companies have their phone number and contact info right on the reciept. If you call and give them the number of the money order (on the receipt), they can tell you if it was cashed and when.

Hey, luke. Where'd you get the money orders from? I've found (the hard way, of course) that the best place to get money orders for "important" stuff (like sneaky illegal companies) is the post office. Yes, they cost more than the convenience store or the grocery store, but they are "on it" if you have a question. I'll use money orders from the grocery store or convenience store for normal stuff, but when it comes to sending money for a payment to a "shady company/pdl", I get them from the post office. Just a little info. for you. I have to learn everything the hard way!

Yes, they do cost more at the post office. They are like $1.00 something versus 50 cents at other stores. I just know that one time I had a problem with a money order (okay, more than once) and went back to the grocery store where I was always getting them and it took forever for them to "track" anything down. Maybe it's just them. They could be idiots. But if I get them from the post office, I go in there and ask "What's up?" and they have an answer in about 2 seconds. So, any pdl's that I have sent money to, I always go to the post office and get them. Just because the grocery store took a long time to "find it" or whatever. The post office seemed to not have a problem at all.

Maybe it's my state that's retarded! LOL! But I've just had much better luck with the post office. And, yes, it's a b**** getting there during their stupid business hours, but I usually try my hardest to get there. Even if it means waiting until Saturday morning. I don't know what your post office hours are. Our "small" post offices close at 4:00; however, I'm lucky enough to be about 10 minutes from the main post office and they have extended hours. Regular post offices, it's almost impossible to get to if you work.
