We now own your debt. We aren't collecting for someone else. You are at our mercy. We will call you at 1 in the morning and tell you that you are effin scum and the only way you will stop us is to pay us what you owe.

You are getting bad advice here. You HAVE to pay us. If you want to have a judgement against you and have your bank account and wages garnished, so be it. You can do it the easy way or the hard way but you WILL pay.

Nobody believes this stuff about you don't have the money. We all know that's a lie. You are eating steaks when you should be eating macaroni and cheese, rice and beans. You are blowing your money going to the movies when you should be paying us. You are not living within your means when you should be paying us.

So you best get on the phone and work out how to pay the maximum amount possible before it gets worse.

NUMBER 4!!!! Welcome back guest.

I'd LOVE to see you try to call me at 1 am. Now, now..You and I both know that's illegal and you can't get away with that! Let's play nice now. Anyway, where is all this bad advice you keep talking about? No one ever tells anyone not to pay..We just want fair and ethical treatment, that's all.

Guest you have truly buried you head in the sand on this post and I really hope your liability insurance is paid up to date. One does not even have to look far to disprove your insane theory. The clear text of the fdcpa defines someone who purchases debt that is in default as a debt collector who would be bound by the law.

Wow, I still can't get over this guest...so many things wrong techically/legally with his post. "We now own your debt"...sounds like a jdb to me, not an original creditor, and once again he/she fails to say which debt or even which of us owns it! LMAO And no one HAS to pay you, if you don't validate. And not even touching the one about calling in 1 AM...pretty self-explanatory. *wry face* And can also stalking someone be a violation here...how would they know what we are eating?! lol

It just keeps proving our point about bad debt collectors. Ridiculous. If they took time to read what we have written about our experiences, they would find that the people in here are trying to pay off their debts, not turn their backs on them. If a debt is ours...we will pay it, but we also have the right to obtain information/documentation to keep for our records.

I have always said there are good collectors and bad collectors. The good collectors call you and explain the situation. They then allow you to explain your situation. They keep their mouths closed long enough to listen to you explain that as you have struggled to pay off all debt, you prefer to have the proper documentation and payment options prior to committing to pay. I have had a few who have been very compliant by sending me the information and allowing me time to review and respond.

On the other side of the coin, we have the bad collectors who call and demand immediate payment. My favorites are the ones who chew gum or food while talking to you. They do not let you get a word in edgewise and claim they do not have to send anything to validate the debt. These are the ones I will turn my back on and wait for the debt to be passed on to another agency. I will not do business with any company that operates like that. The incessant phonecalls, calling other people about the debt, threatening lawsuits/garnishment, etc.

WILD NEWS FLASH...in all my time working to pay off my debts, I have always come out on top of the bad collector. They have been all talk...no action. All I do is mention lawyer and I never hear from them again. I have filed complaints about their practices to AGs, BBB, FTC, etc. IT WORKS!

Guest...if you are so proud of your company, why don't you register and say who you work for? Or do you prefer to stick to the underhanded methods your company is probably known for?

Anyone know the "life expectancy" of a debt collection company? Anyone know why they continuously file for bankruptcy? Anyone ever looked at collectors' profiles on MySpace and get shocked that they earn less than $30K a year and have a high school degree at best? Anyone wonder why collectors use alias'?

Slimy I tell you...slimy...

Good post water, bravo!
As i've seen in my job, my boss owns a boat and rv storage and when people get behind they are ALWAYS willing to catch it up. All you have to do is call and talk to them with the respect they deserve and i have never had one that refused to pay!
Most people DO want to pay what they rightfully owe. It's these inflated debts that cause people to ignore the collectors and the way they are treated by them.
Thanks for such a good post waterbug,
Ang
P.S. ooops forgot i had chicken **** stuffed with broc and cheese and fresh veggies from the garden! :D

Oh, please! I don't spend my time listening to anyone who earns minimum wage being a loser. In reality they are the one's eating rice and beans because they make no money and sit behind some desk that they share with 5 other people at different times of the day. Debt collection is the lowest of low job to take and requires no skill or education. That's right they are are uneducated and unable to get a job anywhere that they wouldn't be embarassed to tell where they work.

And in the case of a former member of our site who claimed to work for a collection agency, they are sometimes convicted felons who can't find gainful employment anywhere else.

Interesting turn of events there, isn't it? Convicted felons calling honest debtors claiming they will go to jail if they don't pay?

Yes, there are requirements for becoming a debt collector. The debt collector job requires a very obnoxious personality. The collector must be hateful, grumpy, unhappy, inconsiderate, and sometimes dishonest, depending on which company is hiring.
The debt collector doesn't need to have good hygiene so he/she can go to work with bad breathe and body odor, wearing the same dirty clothes for several days.
debt collectors can earn a bonus if they are former jailbirds or high school flunkies.
