Under the FCRA laws, accurate negative items stay in the credit report for seven years starting from the date of first delinquency. Do you think the CA is reporting an inaccurate item in your credit file? If so, you need to file a dispute with the CA and the CRA and request for the item to be investigated. They have to show you valid proof of the item being correct, otherwise it must be deleted.

If you think that the collection agency is reporting derogatory items in your report, then you should dispute it with the CRA as well as the CA. Send a dispute letter to the CRA and a debt validation letter to the CA. Send the letter via certified mail with a RRR.
